Harvest Festival and Pumpkin Carving

We went to a local farm for their harvest festival this weekend.  Colton was launching rubber chickens at a bucket in this picture.

The kids climbed up a hill made of straw bales.

Out in the field looking for pumpkins.

North Dakota 2004-2005

We started flying out to North Dakota in 2004.  We have a great group of guys that make this journey to shoot pheasants, play cards, and tell stories.  Thank you to all that have made this trip such a wonderful experience.  The birds in this picture are a metal sculpture, located on The Enchanted Highway between Dickinson and Regent.

The Double JJ Outfitter lodge is our home away from home.

Pushing the birds.

Searching for a downed bird at Indian Creek.

Pat lined up to take the shot.

Taking shelter from the wind and waiting for Rudd to apologize for peppering the guide.

Pat and I.  Just a couple of wide-eyed kids at that point.

On the cold, windy days it is nice to find a wind break.

Relaxing at an abandoned farm after another great shoot.

Get that bird, Doc!!!!

North Dakota Pheasant Shoot Part 1

The second weekend of October was our 8th trip to the state of North Dakota to shoot pheasants.  It was another wonderful trip.  I think that the pheasants outnumber the humans in that part of the world.

A typical North Dakota scene.  A field of CRP, sunflowers drying in the background, and hay behind it.

Mike, Justin, Suka, and unknown hunter.

Bill Slagle and Mike Michalak retrieving a bird that Bill shot.  The bird was barely hit, and Bill had to chase it for about 1/3 of a mile before the bird bled out.  I wasn't sure who was going to give out first.

Justin Corwin pointing to where a bird went down.

Doc picking up a downed bird.

Justin Corwin getting ready to smoke that bird.

Birds getting up ahead of us.

Not only is Bill a deadeye, but he is able to call his hardwood floor installer when he isn't hunting.

Dog on point, and birds getting up between Mike and I.

Another Beautiful Weekend at Antelope Creek

We went to Antelope Creek over the weekend to celebrate Nana and Brandy's Birthdays.  The weather was great and the trees were just getting their fall colors.

Sage, Austin, and Brandy at the lower lake.

A bald eagle getting ready to take flight.  There is a pair of them that hang out at the lower lake and eat their share of fish.
